Grazie and More: Saying Thank You in Italian

Buon Giorno del Ringraziamento a tutti! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated the fourth Thursday of every November. It is one of my favorite holidays, with the focus of gathering as a family, preparing the traditional meal, and taking time to share that for which we are grateful.

I especially love how all of November has become a month of deliberate gratitude and thankfulness.

Gratitude (5)

Most travelers to Italy have at least a couple of Italian words in their back pocket, one of those being grazie. Here are a few others to add to your collection. Click the Italian word to hear it pronounced on Google Translate.

grazie                                                                                                                                                  thank you

grazie mille/mille grazie                                                                                                                      thank you very much (literally: a thousand thank yous)

grazie di cuore                                                                                                                                       a heartfelt thank you

molte grazie                                                                                                                                             thank you very much

grazie di tutto                                                                                                                                         thank you for everything

grazie in anticipo                                                                                                                                     thank you in advance

ti ringrazio tanto                                                                                                                                     I thank you so much (ringraziare is the verb “to thank”)

grazie per la bella giornata/serata                                                                                                     thank you for the beautiful day/evening

ti ringrazio per tutto quello che hai fatto per me                                                                             I thank you for all which you have done for me

E` finalmente, una preghiera (di bambini) per voi (and finally, a child’s prayer for you all)

Grazie per tutti i giorni della gioia, per il divertimento e per gli amici, per lavoro e anche per il gioco; e grazie per l’amiable Tuo cuore che mi protegge, qui, a casa, e dovunque.

Thank you for all the joyful days, for fun and for friends, for work and also for play; and thank you for Your amiable heart which protects me, here at home, and everywhere.

I want to say grazie di cuore to all of you for being here with me at Prayers and Piazzas. Sono grata di voi tutti, I’m grateful for you all.
