A Worthwhile Climb

When one of your goals in Italy is “climb something” this is often waiting for you.

This particular campana (church bell) is found at the top of the Torre di Pisa — the Tower of Pisa — with its famous tilt. Climbing to the top was a good reminder of a simple fact that I had forgotten: the Leaning Tower of Pisa is actually the bell tower (campanile) for the town’s cathedral.

Plenty of people tried to talk us out of visiting Pisa when we took our kids to Italy for the first time in 2010. But I couldn’t very well have them miss one of the most recognizable landmarks of all time! We loved our day in Pisa, eating lunch in town, shopping the stalls and discovering that all the buildings in the Campo dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles) lean.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip! I’m supposed to take a tour there soon, and I always feel there are more interesting towns to visit, but it makes me feel better about it that you felt the trip was fun and worthwhile. 🙂

    1. I think first-timers to Italy would enjoy seeing/climbing the tower. You don’t have to spend too much time in Pisa. Plus the cathedral is beautiful too!

Great! Didn’t know there was also a nice cathedral. Good idea. 🙂
